Video Sucks the Viewer In
People watch videos constantly throughout the day. Video can be used in many different ways too. We
What are people watching?
- videos to teach us how to do/make something
- videos that provide us with news
- videos that tell stories
- video to entertain us
- videos that influence our purchasing decisions.
You have probably noticed that social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn have jumped on the bandwagon when it comes to video. Facebook and Instagram have their own network style features for brands to promote their videos.
So the Future is Video, but WHY?!
People like video because it engages our brains much more than words. In fact, the brain processes video images 60,000 times faster than words. Yeah, that’s even hard to image how that works.
Not only are we able to engage intellectually with video, but we also connect emotionally with video. Video imaging and good storytelling allow video to connect with our emotions. Video can cause us to feel happy, sad, motivated and make us laugh.
But what about word of mouth?!
Word of mouth marketing is still the most effective form of marketing and I don’t ever foresee a time when it won’t be. But here’s the thing. The way we communicated by word of mouth has changed. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are now our mouth. We use these platforms to share information and tell people what we think about things (whether other people like it or not).
So now that social media is the new word of mouth, how are we as marketers creating things that people want to talk about and more importantly, SHARE with their friends.
Other Benefits of Video
One of the many other benefits of video is that images are easier to remember in our brains. The more we see and image, plus hear information about a product or service, the more we will connect with it. That’s why people will go back and watch videos that they have watched days, weeks or even months prior.
Okay, one last benefit of video. It takes less time to get your point across than reading. Yes, we can read up to 200 words per minute, but video can pact more “words” in a second than we could ever possibly read.
In fact, we will creating a video sharing these same tips in a video and posting it in another post. Stay tuned and let us know what you think!
